Boondock Saints

(warning: potential spoilers) Why had I never seen this film? It's been out for 5 years! Anyway I loved it if you didn't already realize that. BS accomplished was what Pulp Fiction attempted. One of the things which made it more real to me than most "vigilante movies" like Death Wish 1-3 and others is that the brothers have to go through incredible amounts of pain and suffering to accomplish their purposes. They seem to endure it all willingly. This is what makes them more like saints and less like trained assassins in the movie. They have been called to this life, the decision has been made for them. The line from the prayer "power has descended from Thy hand that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command" is an explanation for some of the more impossible or at least supernatural events and missions which they carry out. I'm thinking about the "rope scene" and the earlier "toilet scene", also the fact that they receive only superficial wounds from the first encounter with Il Duce. It would seem also that divine providence was also behind the scheduling of Il Duce's release from bondage as well. He shows up just in time to join the brothers, replacing Rocco, whose last words are "Never stop!" In fact it's interesting that he is broken out of lock-up to deal with Rocco. How can the sequel be this good? well, we'll see...
